10 things to know about Matej
- I like order. Parameters, rules, deadlines — these things help me produce my best work.
- I started my career in journalism. It taught me a lot about writing (and typing). It taught me about the working world. It taught me I did not want to be a journalist.
- I believe, no matter how good an idea is, there's always a better one out there. I find this both frustrating and motivating.
- I see everything as an opportunity. No matter how big or small, every project is a chance to do something unique, unexpected and memorable.
- I sweat the details. Because the big picture is made up of a lot of little ones.
- I'm inspired by people who push their art or craft to the absolute limit, be it making a cocktail, riding a skateboard or building a machine that uses 2,000 marbles to play music.
- I'm not only a writer; I'm also a writer. It's the breadth of my experiences and interests that makes me good at my job.
- I enjoy watching birds, playing guitar, taking pictures, cooking and spending time with my family. I often combine these activities, though I have yet to play guitar while cooking.
- I always assume I've heard every possible way to pronounce my name — until I hear a new one. It approximately rhymes with pâté, if you're curious.
- I love words.
- Sometimes I like to break the rules. That also helps me produce my best work.
